The village was of strategic importance in the Second World War as the high, flat land is close to the Atlantic and the English Channel which made this an ideal base for air crews protecting supply ships from attack by German submarines. The village now offers a friendly community with many clubs and activities, including a sports and social club, a village hall hosting numerous events such as treasure hunts, barbeques and the occasional band.

From our Honiton office proceed up the High Street towards Axminster. At the mini roundabout bear left onto Monkton Road. Go over the A30 bridge, past the Exeter turn off and turn left sign posted for Dunkeswell. After approximately 2 miles and upon reaching the top of the hill, bear left sign posted Dunkeswell. On entering the village, pass the petrol station and turn right into Highfield Road. Take the fourth turning on the right into Louis Way and Blossom Close is the second turn on the left.
